The inspection workstation

The inspector’s and manager’s application: sites, annotated drawings, assets, ratings, recommendations, projects, reports. It carries a complete local copy and works without a network.

The synchronization server

The meeting point of the workstations: it receives everyone’s changes, orders them, redistributes them to the others and stores the media. It also holds accounts, roles and per-site rights.

The web portal

§ 01 Under the hood

The mechanics that make the difference

Implementation details are what separate an asset management tool from a shared spreadsheet.

The drawing as the medium
PDF or image background, geometry in drawing coordinates: a drawn zone stays in the right place when the scale, the drawing or the device changes. Sub-zones annotated on a zone’s own image, to go down to the detail.
The asset above the zones
A zone is a drawing; an asset is a thing that ages. STONOS links the two: an asset groups its zones and carries its class, its criticality, its successive ratings and its recommendations.
Priority computed, never typed
Priority results from the condition rating and the criticality, on a 5 × 5 matrix shared by the whole portfolio. Two inspectors rating the same thing get the same priority.
History and trend
Every rating is dated and kept. An asset’s trend reads at a glance — and a faster-than-expected degradation pushes the recommendation up.
Transactional synchronization
Every local save drops its change into an outbound queue, in the same transaction. Nothing leaves half-done, nothing is sent twice, and the device that emitted a change never gets it echoed back.
Audit trail and recycle bin
Every change is logged with its author, date and before / after. Deletions go through a restorable recycle bin: you erase a mistake, not a history.

§ 02 Deployment

One server, some workstations, and your drawings

Deployment starts with your data: sites, drawings and assets are loaded once, then every workstation receives a copy at its first synchronization.

    Install the server

    On a server in your network or hosted by SIIO: the service, its PostgreSQL database and the media store.

  2. 02

    Load the portfolio

    Sites, PDF or image drawings, asset classes and user accounts. Clients of the SIIO Inspection module re-import what they have.

  3. 03

    Equip the inspectors

    The inspection workstation installs on every Surface Pro or Windows PC; the first synchronization pulls the authorized sites.

  4. 04

    Inspect, rate, plan

    The cycle runs: surveys in the field, ratings and recommendations at the office, capital plan at year end.

Requirements

  • A server — physical, virtual or hosted by SIIO — for the service and the database
  • Disk space for media, depending on the volume of photos and 360° views
  • Inspection workstations running Windows 10/11, 64-bit; Surface Pro recommended for touch and camera
  • HTTPS access from the workstations to the server, at the office or over VPN — not in the field
  • Drawings of your sites as PDF or images

Already using the SIIO Inspection module?

STONOS is its direct successor: sites, zones, sub-zones, comments, tasks, media and reports re-import as they are, with their identifiers. Your inspectors find their annotated drawings again; asset management is added on top, generating assets from the existing zones.
